Our development is supported by an international network of academic and industrial partners

The establishment of a network of collaborations with academic laboratories, research centres and industrial leaders is at the centre of Carbios’ strategy. We are constantly looking for new ways to collaborate on biodegradation, biorecycling and production of biosourced polymers.

Industrial Partnerships

In 2016, CARBIOS, in partnership with Limagrian Ingredients and the SPI fund operated by Bpifrance has launched the joint-venture Carbiolice. This joint venture, in which CARBIOS holds a majority stake, is tin charge of the industrial production of EVANESTO, a technology enabling PLA-based plastic to become fully biodegradable in domestic conditions.

In 2017, Carbios and L’Oréal founded a Consortium to bring enhanced recycling technology designed and developed by CARBIOS to market on an industrial scale. Committed to supporting sustainable development with innovative solutions, Nestlé Waters, PepsiCo and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe joined the Consortium in April 2019 to help support the circular plastics economy using Carbios’ breakthrough enzyme-based enhanced recycling technology.

In 2020, CARBIOS also signed a new joint-development agreement with Novozymes, the world leader in enzyme production.

Academic partnerships

Since inception, Carbios has collaborated with leading academic teams in microbiology, molecular biology, bio-informatics, bio-processes and chemistry of polymers, notably the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) teams, the INRAE, TWB (Toulouse White Biotechnology) and the TBI laboratory from the INSA in Toulouse. The Company has demonstrated its commitment to collaborate with academics on its research and development projects, as is shown today by the successful developments of its technologies.

Institutional partnerships

The Company is also supported by leading institutional partners such as Truffle Capital, Bpifrance and the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, as well as by Corporate venture funds, such as BOLD (Business Opportunity for l’Oréal Development) and Michelin ventures
